The Anne Beadell Highway extends from Laverton in Western Australia to Coober Pedy in South Australia some 1340 kms long. It was build by Len Beadell during the early 1950's as part of the Woomera Rocket Range & named after his wife Anne. We traversed this trek in August 2003. The track was smooth going up to No. 4. Campsite near the W.A./S.A. Border as it had been recently graded, then deteriorated rapidly into South Australia where the going was rough with many wash-outs & care had to taken. It took us 5 days to complete & many interesting sites were seen.
Update (2005): Fuel is now available at the newly constructed Ilkuralka Roadhouse situated at the Junction of the Aboriginal Business Road & the Anne Beadell Highway some 165 km from the SA/WA Border & 600km from Laverton. Tel : (08) 90371147 or (08) 90371100.
It is open Mondays - Saturdays.
